X-Station installs available

This year I was commissioned with building a custom PlayStation for an individual who purchased a Smoke Black shell from my new old stock. Not only did he want a shell but he was interested in having me install the new xstation ODE since he was familiar with my attention to detail.

The first step is scraping off solder mask on the pcb. This allows solder to flow and stick.

I’m not going to cover the install in detail. The xstation install guide is hard to improve upon. I’m just pleased with how nicely this came out

In this picture you can see that I lifted some of the pins on the cxd chip. At first I lifted a couple incorrect pins, that’s what I get for not using magnification. Everything went back into place fine.

After lifting the pins to isolate signals, it was time to install the breakout board for the ribbon cable.

Everything looks great!

After all is said and done it really did come together nicely!

You can see the xstation ODE peeking out.

The console stared up without a hitch on the first shot! Time to get some gaming on and “stress test”. My favorite part of building customs! 😉
