MM3 Modchip on PU-18 Playstation 1

I have a few projects in my pile to finish and this is was one of them.

I’m using a 12C508a with typical MM3 code. When I’m installing this on a PU-18, I like to tack pin 8 down on the pad and use jumper wire to secure pin 5 to its contact point. This makes the rest of the install Ez-Pz.

I uploaded the binaries here.

Note: Someone kindly informed that the JAP BIOS can only play burnt JAP region games or games that have the header edited to be JAP as only the CD controller is effected by the MM3 Chip. I haven’t tested this personally, but I will this year.

This is the diagram I (mostly) follow for a PU-18 install.

I found this diagram on what is now a defunct website. It works well for the most part. But you can see from the image above that I chose a different power point for the first pin.

I don’t always keep boots around, but it plays a Japanese copy of Ace Combat 3 without problems. This proves the chip is working as intended.

If you’re interested in having me install one of these for you in a working Playstation, I charge $50 for the chip and install. This also covers return shipping. Contact me here!
